Gatorade Player of the Year Award
MICAH KOHLS
In 1985, representatives of Gatorade Thirst Quencher and Scholastic Coach magazine met to develop a unique athletic award program. The Gatorade High School Player of Year program honors top high school athletes in 10 sports for athletic and academic excellence. The awards program has a reputation in coaching circles as the top award in high school sports, and is perceived as an accurate measure of talent and character.
A National Advisory Board, comprised of sportswriters from across the country, select the top player in each of the 50 states, making that individual a member of the prestigious Gatorade Circle of Champions and as a State Winner, now eligible for consideration of being named the National High School Boys’ Basketball Play of the Year award.
The 2000 Nebraska Gatorade Player of the Year Award Winner was Aurora’s own Micah Kohls!
