| We love books
and reading and want to help support and enhance the
learning environment of our school by helping to create
and build that same love in our students. We endeavor
to create a fun atmosphere in the library where responsibility,
courtesy and cooperation are encouraged.
Our collection of approximately 16,000
materials includes children’s books, periodicals,
videos, DVDs, audio books, a professional library and
professional periodicals.
Each class has a 30-minute weekly
visit to the Media Center. During that time we teach
library skills, introduce students to books and authors.
Students check out books and we give them time to read.
Kindergarten: Students
listen to a story and are taught library etiquette and
skills the first semester. After learning some library
skills and how to take good care of a library book they
will begin checking out a book to take home.
1st Grade: Students
listen to a story, continue learning library etiquette
and skills and check out 1 book to take home.
2nd Grade: 2nd grader
students will listen to a story and we will continue
teaching them library etiquette and skills. They will
check out 2 library books. They will be introduced to
our automated card catalog system. Beginning the second
semester they will also be able to check out books from
the intermediate section of the library.
3rd - 5th Grade:
Students are encouraged to use the card catalog more
and continue learning library skills and etiquette.
We will introduce them to books and authors and help
them with research projects.
Our library is divided into the following
sections: Primary, intermediate, reference, periodicals
and professional. Books from the primary section, periodicals
and reference section are due in 1 week; intermediate
books are due in 2 weeks. If a book is lost, students
will have until 1 month after the due date to find it
before we will ask them to pay for it. If a book is
damaged, please don’t repair it at home, we use
materials specifically made for the job. We appreciate
it if children show us the damage so we can take care
of it.
We participate in the Golden Sower
program. The Golden Sower award is given to 1 book in
a primary category, intermediate category and young
adult category. Nebraska students choose the winners
each spring.
