reputation, having won the Nebraska Future Problem Solving
Bowl many times and qualified and placed at the International
Future Problem Solving Conference.
Fifth and Sixth grade students have competed in the Quiz
Bowl program for the past several years. These students
are also selected by reviewing their achievements, grades,
etc. This program is held in the fall. The students
receive practice material for use on the computer, which they
use for drill and practice. The final session is done
on computers with the results sent in for evaluation.
Our students have done very well in this program also.
Mrs. Joyce Hultgren and Miss Claire Frevert have coordinated
this activity.
The fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students participate in
the Geography Bee, which is held during the latter part of
the first semester. One student is selected by competition
in each section of the three grades. They in turn compete
in front of the grade four, five, and six students to determine
who wins the session. That person moves on for competition
at the state level. This has been a great activity with
very high interest among the students. All of the teachers
in grade four, five and six are involved in this activity
with Mrs. Hultgren serving as coordinator.
Our students compete in the Hamilton County Spelling Contest,
which is held in February. Two students from grade five
and two from grade six are selected by having grade level
spelling competition. These students then participate
at the county level.
Students are introduced to athletics in the fifth grade when
wrestling and basketball are offered to boys and volleyball
and basketball to girls.
