Mission Statement: Support and enhance the learning environment of our school by helping to create and build a love for books and reading.  We endeavor to create an atmosphere where responsibility, courtesy and cooperation are encouraged.

We serve Preschool through 6th grade students, our staff and teachers as well as area preschools and educators

Our collection of approximately 15,000 materials includes children’s books, periodicals, videos, audio books, a professional library and professional periodicals.

Each class has a 30-minute weekly visit to the Media Center. During that time we teach library skills, introduce students to books and give them time to read.

Kindergarten:  Students listen to a story and are taught library etiquette and skills the first semester.  After becoming acclimated to the Media Center and our policies, they will begin checking out 1 book to take home.

1st Grade: Students listen to a story, continue learning library etiquette and skills and check out 1 book to take home.

2nd Grade: We will continue reading a story to 2nd graders and teaching them library etiquette and skills and they will check out 1 primary book.  We will introduce them to our automated card catalog.  Beginning the second semester they will check out an additional book from the upper elementary section of the library.

3rd & 6th Grade:  Students are encouraged to use the card catalog more and continue learning library skills and etiquette.  We will introduce them to books and authors and help them with research projects.

Our library is divided into the following sections:  Primary, upper elementary, reference, periodicals and professional.  Books from the primary section, periodicals and reference section are due in 1 week; upper elementary books are due in 2 weeks.  Students are given a grace period of 1 week to return books before they are charged a fine of .05 cents a day.  If a book is lost, students will have 1 month to find it after the due date before we will ask them to pay for it.  If a book is damaged, please don’t repair it at home, we use materials specifically made for the job.  We appreciate it if children show us damage so we can take care of it.
