A
"school within a school" concept is utilized within
the Aurora Middle School. 7th and 8th grade students
rotate through a nine-period day schedule while the 9th grade
students participate in a rotation of classes on an eight-period
day. The 7-8 grade program includes an advisor/advisee
program that complements the middle level philosophy.
A variety of six and nine week exploratory
courses are provided as electives in addition to the required
general academic classes.
In addition to the traditional academic courses
such as English, Social Studies, Math and Science, classes
in Physical Education, Language Arts and Reading are provided
to 7th students while 8th grade students have elective
opportunities to enroll in civics.
The Middle School begins each day with a
16-minute period of instruction that focuses on the academic
and social needs of students. Class sizes range from
16-18 students. A direct spin-off from our TNT program
(Time & Togetherness) is our Middle School Club Activities.
Students are provided with unique opportunities to explore
a variety of social, academic interests and hobbies that may
become a life long interest. TNT
and club activities are offered in the 7th and 8th grade only.
A staff of 31 teachers
provide instruction to an average of 310 middle school students.
Aurora Middle School's Principal is Ken Thiele.
He has been in Aurora since 1992 and has 20 years of experience
in education.
